Call for Papers | Malaysian Journal of Performing and Visual Arts (MJPVA) | 2025 Issue

The Malaysian Journal of Performing and Visual Arts (MJPVA), published by the Faculty of Creative Arts, Universiti Malaya, invites original scholarly contributions for its 2025 Issue (Vol. 10, No. 1), to be released in December 2025.

About the Journal

The Malaysian Journal of Performing and Visual Arts (MJPVA) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal published annually by the Faculty of Creative Arts, Universiti Malaya. Established to advance the discourse in Asian performing and visual arts, the journal serves as an interdisciplinary platform for scholars, practitioners, educators, and researchers to share original studies, theoretical insights, and practice-led inquiries that contribute to the evolving global arts landscape.

MJPVA is particularly dedicated to exploring the cultural richness of Southeast Asia through the lens of visual art, film, performance studies, creative media, music, dance, and theater. We value contributions that critically examine traditional practices, contemporary expressions, and experimental forms while engaging with issues of identity, heritage, aesthetics, pedagogy, and decoloniality.

As part of its mission, MJPVA promotes cross-cultural dialogue, interdisciplinary scholarship, and innovative methodologies. The journal recognizes the importance of both academic research and practice-based knowledge, offering a space where theory meets artistic experience.

Published articles undergo a rigorous peer-review process and are made available freely to the public in line with the journal’s commitment to open knowledge dissemination. MJPVA is currently indexed in leading national academic databases and is taking strategic steps toward international accreditation through DOAJ, MyCite, Scopus, and Web of Science.

Whether you are a researcher reflecting on performance epistemology, an artist documenting a creative process, or a theorist engaging with aesthetics and philosophy of art—MJPVA invites your voice to contribute to this growing intellectual and artistic conversation.
